Dunes des Charmes site

Located in the commune of Sermoyer (01), some twenty kilometers from our campsite in the Ain region, in the heart of the Val de Saône, the Charmes site is a real surprise. Although far from the sea, winds and floods have shaped the dunes, creating landscapes that are unique in the Rhône-Alpes region. Among these very dry or wooded areas, there are ponds that lend a certain freshness and originality. These dunes are made up of a mosaic of natural habitats offering an exceptional diversity of species. These include dune plants, mountain bog plants such as the flooded lycopod, a small fern that looks like a moss, even though the site is located on the plain…

The site is open to the public. Parking is available in the commune of Sermoyer. Information on the site’s history and challenges is available here. A signposted trail (approx. 2 km – duration 1 h – 1 h 30) takes you on a tour of this original site, rich in diversity.You can also enjoy a picnic on site. Children’s games and educational displays will delight young and old alike.
