Would you like to explore the surrounding area and its typical villages?\nIn between a dip in our beautiful heated swimming pool or a workout on the exercise equipment at our Ain campsite in the heart of nature<\/a>, why not take a trip to the foot of the Revermont and its welcoming mountains?\nCome and take a stroll around this typical little village.\nTreffort (01) is a pretty village located between Bresse and Revermont.\nIt has preserved its medieval character.\nYou’ll find, among other things, the winegrower’s habitat, the halles, the wash-house, the church, the narrow streets, the 14\u1d49 century market hall, the fountains, the rue du fiscal, the Traboule and the rue Ferrachat with its beautiful facades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The origins of Treffort’s history are recorded as far back as 974 (when the name Trefortium was first coined), with the construction of the very first “fortified house”. But certain clues and other traces reveal that this site was inhabited by man long before that date. It’s a perched village, clinging to the first ranges of the Jura mountains. The construction of the capped castle with its eight towers at the top of the village (which has unfortunately partly disappeared today) was the work of the seigneury of the Counts of Burgundy and then the Sires de Coligny. In 1289, the beginning of the “Savoyard” period, the village was equipped with wide, imposing ramparts pierced by at least six gates. There were more than thirty towers, the remains of which are still visible. They served as observation points and lookouts against the enemy. In 1601, Treffort became part of the Kingdom of France.Another revealing feature of this mountainside village is that vineyards also shaped the area for over 1,000 years, until phylloxera decimated the crops. Until then, the traditions associated with vine-growing were very much alive in the commune. In some private homes, frescoes and tapestries show men working around the bunches of grapes to extract all their flavours.The famous “petit vin des Cavets”, another gracious appellation of the time that allowed locally produced wine to be called, without much mastery or rigor, has since been improved and replaced by the AOC Comt\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
