Bourg-en-Bresse (01) is a city with a generous past which has kept an original heritage. Former Gallo-Roman stronghold, it was attached to Savoy during the Middle Ages before becoming French in the 16th century. The city is made up of old buildings, memories of this past. There are medieval half-timbered houses, 17th and 18th century mansions, including the Marron de Meillonnas hotel, Notre-Dame church … Its most famous monument, a building of flamboyant Gothic, is the Royal Monastery of Brou, founded by the Duchess of Savoy, Marguerite of Austria (XVIth century).
